Whatever happens, happens.

My first aerial propagation and other pics

Starting the year off right?

This is more of a pic and notes dump for the day. There’s lots of new growth happening. I’m constantly taking pictures but very few get shared, and I’m constantly wishing I had made notes on when I did something or when something occurred. Sure a planning notebook would be the obvious choice, but that’s never worked for me for whatever reason. I’ve had this domain since 2002, and this WordPress site has been setup since 2014 but I’ve never really successfully used it for anything, so we’ll try this and see what happens…

Monstera aerial propagation

I started this aerial propagation in early November. Yesterday I cut it to force myself to finally do something with it. I’ve had the wood in the car since before Christmas to make some planks after the manner of the Techplant modular planks. Today I grabbed the saw and drill and crudely crafted three one foot planks and threw this together.

I couldn’t fit the entire stem cutting plus the plank in the size pot I wanted to use, so I ended up cutting the bottom portion off, which was two nodes with one big chunk of roots. The remaining portion still had two separate rooted nodes and lots of roots.

Alocasia

My Walmart clearance alocasia is doing REALLY well! I read about them dropping leaves when new ones are coming in, but so far this guy just keeps pushing up new stems… its getting VERY crowded! I probably need to separate a couple of the out, but not today. Two big leaves are half way opened with two more stems still working their way up.

Colocasia Progress

These two have been chillin’ in the shed growing under lights for the past couple of months. Once the cold weather passes, the plan is to pick up some more and plant them in the front flower bed. They’ve been very busy the past few weeks.

Calathea Musaica

There’s at least five new stems working their way up.

Calathea Mokoyana

I’ve only ever seen individual stems come up. This is the first time I’ve seen a second stem come from an existing or new stem.
